Saturday Satsang

Exploring the Wisdom of Yoga Beyond the Postures

A welcoming circle exploring the ideas and wisdom of yoga beyond the postures through shared inquiry, reflection, and meditation.

What does yoga really have to say about the mind, about how we live, and about what it means to live well?

About the Gathering

There is far more to yoga than poses. The postures most people associate with yoga today are only a small part of a much older and richer tradition.

Saturday Satsang is an opportunity to explore the deeper wisdom of yoga and how it can help us navigate modern life with greater clarity and awareness.

Many people encounter yoga primarily through physical practice, but traditionally yoga offered a much broader framework for understanding the mind and living well. These gatherings explore that wider perspective.

The word satsang comes from Sanskrit and can be translated as “gathering in the direction of truth.” Traditionally it refers to people coming together to explore wisdom teachings and reflect on how they apply to everyday life.

In a world full of conflicting advice about how to live well, the teachings of yoga offer something rare: a clear, practical, and non-religious path for understanding the mind and living with greater balance and integrity.

These teachings have been refined and distilled over thousands of years, yet remain surprisingly relevant today.

This is not a lecture, and it is not a yoga posture class. It is also not about adopting beliefs or following a guru.

Instead, each gathering explores ideas from traditional yoga texts such as the Yoga Sūtras, and considers how they might illuminate the realities of modern life.

No prior knowledge of yoga philosophy is needed — just curiosity and an open mind.

What to Expect

Each gathering follows a simple and relaxed structure:

• We begin with gentle grounding movement and breath awareness to help us arrive and settle.
• Sally introduces an idea or theme from traditional yoga teachings.
• The circle then opens for shared inquiry and reflection.
• We close with a short period of quiet meditation or contemplation.

Conversation unfolds slowly in a circle where each person has space to speak and be listened to without interruption.

There is no pressure to speak — listening and reflecting are equally valuable ways to take part.
