Sally’s Ethos
My approach to yoga, and life in general, is one of exploration.
Yoga encompasses far more than just physical poses. It’s a personal journey, a science that allows us to delve into our own experiences to discover our true selves and attain inner peace. People often inquire about the style of yoga I practice, but I hesitate to label it with common contemporary terms. My yoga is grounded in real-world experience; it’s street yoga. While I honor the ancient roots of the practice, I strive to ensure its relevance in modern life.
The physical practice of asana is an integral part of this journey. The poses serve as a means to explore our internal physical and mental landscapes. Asana practice goes beyond mere exercise; it’s about slowing down and mindfully moving our bodies through their full range of motion. Through this exploration, we not only enhance our strength, mobility, and balance but also gain insight into how our habitual movement patterns affect us mentally. Ultimately, it’s about improving our overall well-being.
Yoga invites us to examine how we attend to and engage with the world. Attention isn’t just another brain function; it completely shapes our reality and how relate to the world around us. The practice helps us to recognise and replace unhelpful patterns with more constructive ones. Through exploration, we uncover the complex layers we’ve built around ourselves—the filters through which we perceive the world. Through this process we reveal ourselves to ourselves.
Each of us is unique, possessing an innate understanding of our needs. Often, we simply require gentle guidance. While my teaching primarily focuses on physical practices, I don’t prescribe rigid sequences of poses. Genuine exploration demands more than copying; it requires genuine curiosity, honest engagement, and open-minded exploration.
Ultimately, yoga facilitates the restoration of physical, mental, and spiritual balance. My role is to steer you toward various practices and provide a supportive environment for you to explore their significance. My aim is to give you the time, space, and guidance needed to nurture your own well-being.
